Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to play?
No. The game creates a guest account for you the first time you open it, and you can use every feature with it. Guest progress belongs to that installation, so we recommend linking a sign-in method in Settings → Account to keep it safe.
How do I keep my progress or move it to a new phone?
- On your current phone, open Settings → Account and choose Continue with Apple, Continue with Google or Continue with Email. Your progress stays attached to the account.
- On the new phone, open Settings → Account, tap Already have an account? Sign in and use the same method.
- Signing in replaces the guest progress on the new phone with your account's progress.
I forgot my password
On the email sign-in screen, enter your email address and use the password reset option. We will send you a link to choose a new password. Check your spam folder if it does not arrive.
Can I play offline?
Yes. Classic games work offline, and so does the daily challenge once it has been downloaded. Your results are saved on your device and sent when you are back online. Rankings, battles and friends need an internet connection.
My score is not on the leaderboard
- Every result is checked on our servers before it is ranked. If you played offline, it is sent the next time the app is open with a connection.
- A leaderboard keeps your best score, so a lower score does not replace it.
- Results that cannot be verified, for example a solving time that is not realistic, are not ranked.
- Weekly and monthly boards reset at the start of the week or month in UTC.
If you think a result is missing by mistake, email us with your friend code and the date of the game.
How does the daily challenge work?
Everyone gets the same puzzle each day. The day changes at 00:00 UTC, which may be a different hour in your local time. Only your first valid completion counts for the daily ranking. A challenge you finished offline is still accepted for a short time after the day ends.
How do battles and ratings work?
- In the Battle tab, Quick Match pairs you with a player of a similar rating. Both players get the same puzzle, and the first to solve it wins.
- Three mistakes lose the match. Leaving the match, or being disconnected for about 30 seconds, also counts as a loss.
- Everyone starts at a rating of 1000. Winning raises it and losing lowers it, and your league goes from Bronze up to Grandmaster.
- Matches against friends can be played without affecting your rating.
How do I add friends or challenge one?
Open Friends. Share your friend code, enter a friend's code or search by player name, and they will receive a request. Once you are friends, tap Challenge to invite them to a battle. You can also create an invite link and send it to anyone. To remove a friend, long press their name.
My invite link does not work
Invites expire 15 minutes after they are created, and creating a new invite cancels your previous one. The person opening the link needs to have Sudoku installed. Send a new invite if the old one has expired.
How do I change my player name?
Edit your name in the Profile tab. Names can be up to 24 characters and are visible to other players, so please do not use personal information. Names that break our Terms of Use may be reset.
I'm not getting notifications
- Notifications are off by default. Turn on Daily challenge & reminders in Settings → Notifications.
- Make sure notifications for Sudoku are allowed in your device settings.
- Do Not Disturb, Focus modes and battery optimization can hide or delay alerts.
- Streak reminders are only sent when you have a streak that would end that day, and can be switched off separately.
How do I report a player or an inappropriate name?
Email [email protected] with the player's name, where you saw it (for example which leaderboard) and a screenshot if you can. You can remove a friend at any time, and you can decline friend requests and battle invitations.
What happens when I sign out?
Signing out does not delete your account. The device continues as a new guest, and you can sign back in at any time to restore your progress.
How do I delete my account and data?
Open Settings → Data → Delete account while connected to the internet. This permanently deletes your profile, statistics, achievements, friends and rankings, and cannot be undone. Afterwards the app starts again with a new, empty guest account. If you cannot open the app, email us and we will delete the account for you. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Does the game have ads or purchases?
No. Sudoku is free and currently has no ads, in-app purchases or subscriptions.
